TRULY PASTURE RAISED
Here at Horse Shoe Ranch we raise hens for eggs and slow grow rangers cross birds for meat
all on pasture, all the time.
There are so many new confusing phrases when it comes to labels we want to help get some things straight.
The term ‘pasture-raised’ is unregulated and has been “green washed” and used by many large companies to trick you into buying their product. Any further than it being necessary to have outdoor access for the birds, for meat birds its even worse it doesn’t really matter how much space they have or how many birds go outside. In saying we are TRULY Pasture Raised we are saying our chickens are OUTSIDE 100% of the day. By choice the egg layers go inside their mobile barns at night to perch high and be safe from predators but as soon as the suns out so are they and the meat birds are kept in large mobile pasture coops where they are free to roam and forage and get moved once or twice a day.
Don’t be fooled by labels, if they can’t show you where the chickens live, don’t trust em
If you want to truly know your food, know your farmer.
WHAT DO THEY EAT?
All of our chickens are fed a non GMO, chemical free feed with lots of protein and ingredients like sunflowers & kelp, they also get to scratch and peck in the grass and forage for seeds and bugs all day long.
WHERE DO THEY LIVE?
Mobile Coops of different styles surrounded by electric net fencing move across the pasture all week to give the ladies fresh grass, bugs, & seeds making them TRULY pasture raised. The coops are only utilized by the chickens for egg laying and protection during the day if needed and coming to roost at night to stay safe from night time critters.
